The Mosasaurus lived more than 66 million years ago and was one of the first Mesozoic marine reptiles known to science! The first fossils of a Mosasaurus were found as skulls in Maastricht in the late 18th century, and were initially thought to be crocodiles or whales. 

If you are intrigued by the Mosasaurus (which...of course you are) visit the Natural History Museum of Maastricht to learn more about it and even see paleontologists at work on their continuing excavation in a science lab!
