"Live your myth in Greece" illustration
The pink flag in my illustration is a reference to the artwork “Neighbourhood Guilt” by Georgia Lale. Her piece is a quilt created by pink and white bedsheets given to her from other Greek women and it brings attention to femicides and domestic violence. Her artwork was censored for “mocking a sacred national symbol”.
Shouldn’t our lives be the most sacred thing of all?
In 2024 alone, 5 femicides have already been committed:
On January 1st, pregnant Georgia was killed by her partner and his friend at their home.
On January 8th, a woman was killed by her husband at their home.
On February 16th, Nina was killed by her boyfriend at their home.
On February 22nd, a woman was killed by her husband at their home.
On April 1st, Kyriaki was murdered by her ex outside the police station where she went to seek help. She was denied her request for a patrol car to accompany her home, because the police is “not a taxi”.
